Greek drama continues as expected, with the South European country given another ‘final’ deadline. Now Greeks have to provide a reasonable proposal until the end of this week or there has been a warning of Greece leaving the eurozone.
Greek Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras has now five days to show an interesting proposal for the major creditors. As the German Chancellor Angela Merkel states, she would love to see the proposal until Thursday to provide it to Bundestag, which is eligible to authorize new aid talks. Nevertheless, she admitted that she is “not especially optimistic.”
Moreover, EU Council President Donald Tusk added: “The stark reality is that we have only five days left … Until now I have avoided talking about deadlines, but tonight I have to say loud and clear that the final deadline ends this week.”
On Sunday, all the 28 European Union representatives are about to meet on greek issue to provide final decision. Although Greek PM Tsipras seemed optimistic when leaving the summit, it won’t be that easy to find a solution in Greece as even his government partners are not unified in their stance.
Tsipras informed that he would agree to socially fair agreement, which could provide ‘final exit’ from the Greek crisis with growth-focused and debt-restructuring measures. Tusk said that in case of failureit would be the “most critical moment in our history”.
Lithuanian President Dalia Grybauskaite call the situation exactly – “it is every time manana” with Greeks. Merkel seems to be under rising pressure, so she said that Greece has to come up with a reasonable solution finally. Greek government can not refuse tax rises, spending cuts related to pension and labor reforms as being discussed before the first deadline (June 30). Merkel added that conditions for any relevant aid talks had not been met.
