Swiss watch producer Swatch has made a deal with Visa Europe and Switzerland’s Cornèr Bank for backing of the launch of its new NFC-enabled timepiece Bellamy. It is estimated that it should come to market in the middle of June with a price tag of CHF105.
What does this deal mean for the participants? If a client of Swatch buys any of the first three models at any Swatch store, they will have an opportunity to sign up with Cornèr Bank. As for the visa, the opportunity is clear and they can start shopping freely not only in Switzerland but also everywhere in the world, wherever contactless Visa card is accepted.
The Swatch smart watch got its name after 19th century American writer Edward Bellamy, an author with an utopian future, where all the cash had been completely removed and replaced by payment cards.
The Swiss watchmaker has already secured an agreement with China UnionPay to launch the timepiece in China as well, taking advantage on this huge Asian market.
The company states that the NFC chip, hidden under the dial, uses zero energy when making a transaction so that users can expect the usual battery life of a regular Swatch. The firm has high expectations from this feature with a standard design to be the right gamechanger as it takes on smartwatches launched by interlopers such as Apple and Samsung.
Cornèr Bank is constantly trying to keep its stable position and ensure the clients of its credibility. It has been awarded as the number 1 Bank in Switzerland for its solidity. These results were published after a global analysis in 2015, compiled by The Banker.
We will see the results of these extraordinary steps later, but these efforts are showing us, that Cornèr Bank belongs to the banks and brokers with responsible attitude, thinking also about the future.
