We could see a report of Microsoft, that it will not accept bitcoin more, but the website seems to be still processing and crediting bitcoin payments.
According to the report from weekend, the company’s online shop was refusing bitcoin in relation to a new policy of Windows 10 and its mobile version. According to the page, clients could no longer deposit bitcoin into their account. “Existing balances in your account will still be available for purchases from Microsoft Store, but can’t be refunded.”
This comes after the bitcoin euphoria from 2014, when Microsoft was one among those companies, which started accepting bitcoin in its online marketplace through the payment processor BitPay. The company had informed that it was not accepting the cryptocurrency directly, but providing an option for adding funds for purchasing Windows, Windows Phone and Xbox content.
Over the weekend, worries about cutting bitcoin payments came out from PC World, TechCrunch, The Verge and other, stating that it will be the end of bitcoin payments in Microsoft. Nevertheless, Microsoft is still allowing users to send in bitcoin to add funds to their user account, which can then be spent on Windows 10, Windows 10 Mobile and Xbox products.
As Coindesk found out, a Microsoft representative informed them that users are still able to fund their account with the company with bitcoins and use those funds to purchase items. Moreover, there has been no official statement about any change to this policy, albeit we can expect a statement to come in the future.
When Microsoft accepted bitcoin, its vice president of Universal Store at Microsoft stated that “while not mainstream, [bitcoin] is growing beyond the early enthusiasts”.
“We expect this growth to continue and allowing people to use bitcoin to purchase our products and services now allows us to be at the front edge of that trend,” he wrote.
